Ingredients needed 🛒2 servings

  • Generous amount of thick steak-cut beef
  • Plenty of salt
  • Generous amount of butter
  • Generous amount of minced onion
  • Generous amount of minced garlic
  • Generous amount of milk
  • Generous amount of tonkatsu sauce
  • Generous amount of tomato ketchup
  • Coarsely ground black pepper, plenty
  • Generous amount of flour
  • Generous amount of beaten eggs
  • Generous amount of panko breadcrumbs
  • Generous amount of morning rolls
  • Generous amount of egg salad
  • Generous amount of pickles
  • A little parsley powder

Recipe 🍳

  1. Generously sprinkle salt on both sides of the thick steak-cut beef and place it on an oven tray.
  2. Place the beef in an air fryer set to 100 degrees Celsius and bake for 25 minutes to completely dry the surface moisture.
  3. While the meat is drying, melt butter in a pan, add minced onion and minced garlic, and sauté until golden brown.
  4. When the onions become translucent, add milk, tonkatsu sauce, tomato ketchup, and coarsely ground black pepper, bring to a simmer, and complete the sauce.
  5. Coat the beef taken out of the air fryer evenly with flour, beaten egg, and panko breadcrumbs in that order.
  6. Fry the meat in oil heated to 160 degrees Celsius until the entire surface turns a deep brown color and becomes crispy.
  7. Arrange the morning rolls pan-fried in butter, egg salad, and pickles on a plate. Spread the prepared sauce on the bottom, place the steak katsu cut into bite-sized pieces on top, sprinkle with parsley, and serve.
  1. Sprinkle salt on steak-cut beef and dry its surface in a 100-degree air fryer for 25 minutes.
  2. Add milk, tonkatsu sauce, ketchup, and pepper to sautéed onion and garlic, then boil to make the special sauce.
  3. Coat the meat with batter, fry in 160-degree oil until golden brown, then serve with morning rolls and sauce.

Cooking tips 💡

  • The 100-degree air fryer process is not for cooking the meat, but a crucial step to dry the surface moisture, helping the batter adhere well and fry even crispier.
  • The steak katsu is most juicy and flavorful when the cross-section is a soft medium.
  • For a special treat, you can make a sandwich-style burger by placing the steak katsu, egg salad, pickles, and sauce between morning rolls pan-fried in butter, according to your preference.
