- bread, as needed
- butter, as needed (1:1 ratio with sugar)
- sugar, as needed (1:1 ratio with butter)
- cinnamon powder, a pinch (optional)
Recipe 🍳
- Cut the bread into bite-sized cubes about 1-2 cm each using scissors or a knife.
- Place the bread cubes in a dry pan without oil. Toast over low heat, rolling them occasionally, until they are dry and crispy like crackers. Set aside.
- In a clean pan, add butter and sugar in a 1:1 ratio. Heat without stirring until it naturally turns brown and bubbly, forming a caramel sauce.
- Once the sauce is fully bubbling, reduce the heat and add all the toasted bread cubes. Quickly toss with a spatula to evenly coat.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon powder to taste for extra flavor, then spread on a tray to cool completely and crisp up.
- Cut bread into dice, toast in a dry pan until crispy like crackers, then set aside.
- In a pan, melt equal parts butter and sugar without stirring to make a brown caramel sauce.
- Add the bread to the sauce, toss quickly, then spread out to cool and harden.
Cooking tips 💡
- When melting the butter and sugar, do not stir with a spatula as the sugar may clump. Instead, gently swirl the pan for a smooth sauce.
- Spread the finished bread popcorn apart so pieces don't stick while cooling, to keep them crispy longer.
