  • College students living alone who want to recreate restaurant-quality tteokbokki using just one bowl and no pots.

Ingredients needed 🛒1 servings

  • 1 pack spicy ramyeon (noodles, soup powder, dried vegetables)
  • Water as needed
  • 1 tbsp gochugaru
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp guk-ganjang (soup soy sauce)
  • 1 tbsp gochujang
  • A handful of tteokguk tteok (rice cake slices)
  • Some eomuk (fish cake)
  • A little cabbage
  • A little green onion
  • 1 tbsp mulyeot (rice syrup)

Recipe 🍳

  1. In a deep microwave-safe bowl, pour water and add the dried vegetable packet, ramyeon soup powder, gochugaru, sugar, guk-ganjang, and gochujang. Stir well until fully dissolved without lumps.
  2. Submerge the tteokguk tteok, bite-sized pieces of eomuk, cabbage, and green onion into the seasoned water.
  3. Place the bowl in the microwave and cook for 4 minutes first to cook the rice cakes and vegetables and infuse the broth.
  4. After 4 minutes, take out the bowl, add the ramyeon noodles, and microwave again for another 4 minutes to cook the noodles.
  5. Finally, remove from the microwave, add 1 tbsp of mulyeot for shine and sticky sweetness, and toss everything together evenly.
  6. For presentation, transfer to a wide tteokbokki plate and serve.
  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, dissolve water, ramyeon soup powder, gochujang, and other basic seasonings. Add rice cakes, fish cake, and vegetables. Microwave for 4 minutes.
  2. Push the ramyeon noodles into the broth and microwave for another 4 minutes to cook the noodles.
  3. Finally, mix in mulyeot for shine, then transfer to a plate for serving.

Cooking tips 💡

  • Use spicy ramyeon as the base to achieve a perfectly balanced sweet and spicy rabokki that won't get tiresome when mixed with gochujang and sugar.
  • Since the broth can boil over in the microwave, be sure to use a deep, generously sized microwave-safe bowl.
