Ingredients needed 🛒2 servings
- beef tenderloin 200g
- cucumber 0.5 medium
- lettuce 3~4 leaves
- green onion 0.5 stalk
- ginger a small amount
- water 10 tablespoons
- oyster sauce 1 tablespoon
- light soy sauce 1 tablespoon (for sauce) + 1 teaspoon (for marinating meat)
- starch powder 2 tablespoons
- black pepper a small amount
- vegetable oil 2~3 tablespoons
- sesame oil 1 teaspoon
Recipe 🍳
- Cut the cucumber in half and slice thinly. Tear the lettuce into bite-sized pieces. Slice the green onion and ginger finely for better aroma.
- In a bowl, mix water 10 tablespoons, oyster sauce 1 tablespoon, light soy sauce 1 tablespoon, starch powder 2 tablespoons, and black pepper a small amount until smooth, like milk, to prepare the starch sauce in advance.
- Slice the beef tenderloin into thick, jagged pieces suitable for eating. Marinate with 1 teaspoon light soy sauce and a small amount of black pepper, mixing gently.
- Heat a small amount of oil in a pan, add the marinated beef, and stir-fry until about 70–80% cooked on the outside. Remove and set aside, draining off excess oil and blood residue.
- Add 2–3 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the same pan, then sauté the sliced green onion and ginger to release their fragrance.
- Once the aroma rises, pour in the pre-mixed starch sauce while stirring continuously, and bring to a boil.
- When the sauce begins to bubble, add the stir-fried beef tenderloin, lettuce, and cucumber all at once. Quickly toss to evenly coat with sauce.
- Finish by drizzling a drop of sesame oil and mixing well. Serve either piled onto rice or plated directly.
- Prepare vegetables to size, and mix water, oyster sauce, soy sauce, starch, and pepper to make the starch sauce.
- Slice beef tenderloin, marinate with soy sauce and pepper, then quickly sear only the surface before removing from pan.
- Sauté green onion and ginger in oil, bring the sauce to a boil, then quickly stir in the meat and vegetables and finish with sesame oil.
Cooking tips 💡
- Pre-mixing the starch into the sauce makes it much easier for beginners to achieve the right consistency and reduces overall cooking time.
- The key appeal of this dish lies in the crisp texture of the lettuce, so avoid overcooking—just lightly toss at the end to preserve its fresh, sweet crunch.
- Beef tenderloin becomes tough if overcooked, so it's best to quickly sear just the exterior and briefly stir-fry in the sauce.
