- Red bean paste (as needed)
- Glutinous rice flour (as needed)
- Sugar (generous amount)
- Salt (a pinch)
- Hot water (as needed)
- Corn starch (as needed)
Recipe 🍳
- Wash fresh strawberries, remove moisture, and remove stems. Evenly wrap each strawberry with sweet red bean paste and shape into a round ball.
- In a heatproof bowl, combine glutinous rice flour, a generous amount of sugar, and a pinch of salt. Gradually add hot water while mixing until no dry powder remains.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and microwave for 1 minute.
- After 1 minute, remove and stir thoroughly with a spoon so the dough clumps together and cooks evenly.
- Re-cover with plastic wrap and microwave for another 1 minute, then stir. Repeat this process a total of 5 times until the dough becomes very chewy.
- Generously sprinkle corn starch on a cutting board or work surface. Place the hot glutinous rice cake dough on it and coat evenly with starch.
- Divide the dough into equal portions. Flatten each piece thinly, place a red bean-wrapped strawberry in the center, and fold the edges to seal, shaping into a round ball.
- Evenly wrap strawberries in sweet red bean paste and shape into rounds.
- Mix glutinous rice flour, sugar, and salt with hot water, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave for 1 minute; stir. Repeat 5 times to make the rice cake.
- Coat the chewy rice cake dough with starch, then wrap the red bean-stuffed strawberries tightly, shaping into rounds.

- When using midsummer strawberries that are very tart or less sweet, add an excessive amount of sugar to the dough to balance the dessert's flavor.
