  • Ground beef (or pork) as needed
  • Chopped green onion, a little

  • Gochugaru, a little
  • Jin ganjang, a little
  • Oyster sauce, a little
  • Doubanjiang, a little
  • Mirin, a little

  • 1 bowl of rice
  • Sesame oil, a little
  • Sesame seeds, a little

Recipe 🍳

  1. Place the prepared chopped green onion, chopped onion, chopped Cheongyang chili pepper, and ground beef together in a bowl.
  2. Add cooking oil, gochugaru, jin ganjang, oyster sauce, doubanjiang, mirin, chopped garlic, and sugar to the bowl, then mix evenly to make the seasoned sauce.
  3. Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes and lay them on the bottom of another microwave-safe bowl.
  4. Spread the prepared seasoned meat sauce evenly over the cut tofu.
  5. Put the bowl in the microwave and cook for 16 minutes until the meat is fully cooked.
  6. Once done, place the mapo tofu over warm rice, drizzle with sesame oil, and sprinkle sesame seeds on top. Serve as a rice bowl.
  1. Mix the chopped vegetables and ground meat with doubanjiang, gochugaru, and the other seasonings to make the sauce.
  2. Place the sauce over the cubed tofu and microwave for 16 minutes.
  3. Serve the finished mapo tofu over rice, finishing with sesame oil and sesame seeds.

Cooking tips 💡

  • Using ground pork instead of beef works well too, as the rich fattiness pairs nicely with the tofu.
  • The final drizzle of sesame oil and sprinkle of sesame seeds add a nutty finish behind the spicy seasoning, so be sure to include them.
