Ingredients needed 🛒2 servings

  • Jimi-chae (as needed)
  • Melted butter (a little)
  • Sugar (a little)
  • Seasoned salt (a little)
  • Peanut butter (1 tbsp)
  • Water (as needed, for soaking)

Recipe 🍳

  1. Soak the dried jimi-chae in lukewarm water for about 5 minutes to soften the hard and tough texture, making it easy to chew.
  2. In a mixing bowl for the sauce, combine melted butter (softened in the microwave), sugar, seasoned salt for savory depth and umami, and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter to create a thick, rich sauce.
  3. After 5 minutes, remove the plumped jimi-chae from the water, squeeze tightly with both hands to remove as much moisture as possible, ensuring the sauce will adhere.
  4. Place the drained jimi-chae into the prepared butter-peanut sauce bowl, and massage with your fingers to coat each strand evenly.
  5. Spread the seasoned jimi-chae strands in a single layer on the air fryer tray, and air fry at 160°C for 10 minutes until golden and crispy.
  1. Soak the dried jimi-chae in water for 5 minutes to soften, then squeeze dry thoroughly.
  2. Mix melted margarine (or butter), sugar, seasoned salt, and peanut butter in the right proportions to make the sauce.
  3. Coat the drained jimi-chae thoroughly with the sauce, then air fry at 160°C for 10 minutes.

Cooking tips 💡

  • If the jimi-chae is still wet after draining when coating with the butter sauce, the sauce will slide off and won't become crispy in the air fryer. Firmly squeeze out all moisture to avoid failure.
  • Peanut butter is a key ingredient that provides the deep nuttiness and rich aroma unique to movie theater-style grilled squid, which cannot be replicated with butter alone. It is strongly recommended not to omit it.
