Thaw frozen songpyeon in the microwave or rice cooker before use.
Heat a pan over medium heat and add generous amount of cooking oil. Grill the thawed songpyeon on all sides until golden brown.
Score the surface of the Vienna sausages to allow better absorption of the sauce and even cooking.
Alternate threading the grilled songpyeon and scored Vienna sausages onto wooden skewers.
In a small pan or pot, combine 2 tablespoons gochujang, 4 tablespoons ketchup, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 6 tablespoons corn syrup, and 1 tablespoon minced garlic. Mix well.
Place the seasoned pan over medium heat and stir continuously to prevent burning. Bring to a boil, then turn off the heat.
Lightly coat another pan with cooking oil and grill the prepared skewers on both sides until the sausages are nicely browned.
Once the sausages are cooked through, remove from heat and use a brush to evenly coat both sides with the prepared gochujang sauce.
Finish by sprinkling chopped peanuts or almonds as a topping.
Grill the songpyeon and score the Vienna sausages.
Thread the songpyeon and sausages onto skewers alternately, then mix the seasoning ingredients and simmer to make the sauce.
Grill the skewers again briefly until golden, brush with sauce, and finish with a sprinkle of nuts.
Cooking tips 💡
For children’s snacks, reduce spiciness by increasing ketchup to 6 tablespoons.
Since songpyeon has already been pre-cooked, only lightly grill the skewers until the Vienna sausages are fully cooked.
Adding chopped nuts at the end enhances the dish with a rich, nutty flavor and crunchy texture, greatly improving overall satisfaction.
