🙋 Recommended for

  • Parents who want to quickly prepare a nutritious and tasty breakfast for young children going to kindergarten or school
  • Those looking for a thoughtfully made, fast-to-prepare bento option perfect for light picnics or outings

Ingredients needed 🛒1 servings

  • rice 1 bowl
  • tuna can 1 can (oil removed)
  • egg 2 pieces
  • gochujang 0.5 tablespoon
  • tonkatsu sauce 1 tablespoon
  • mayonnaise 1 tablespoon
  • seasoned seaweed 1 pack
  • whole sesame seeds a little

Recipe 🍳

  1. Place warm rice in a bowl, gently squeeze out the oil from the tuna can, and add only the meaty part.
  2. Heat a small amount of cooking oil in a pan, crack in 2 eggs, and stir roughly with chopsticks to make a moist scrambled egg. Mix it into the rice.
  3. Add 0.5 tablespoon of gochujang, 1 tablespoon of sweet-savory tonkatsu sauce, and 1 tablespoon of rich mayonnaise to the mixture.
  4. Put the seasoned seaweed pack into a plastic bag and lightly crush it to make crumbs. Sprinkle generously over the rice.
  5. Use a spoon or gloved hands to thoroughly mix all ingredients and seasonings until evenly distributed.
  6. Shape the rice into round, firm hand-sized rice balls using one hand, then sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  1. Place oil-free, lean tuna meat and freshly made scrambled eggs on top of the rice.
  2. Add gochujang, tonkatsu sauce, mayonnaise, and crushed seasoned seaweed, mixing well to evenly distribute the seasoning.
  3. Form the rice into round, bite-sized hand rice balls with your hands and top with sesame seeds.

Cooking tips 💡

  • If shaping each ball is too time-consuming or you're short on time in the morning, simply serve the rice in a bowl and eat it with a spoon—it’s just as delicious.
  • You can substitute with Worcestershire sauce or regular soy sauce, but the unique sweetness and rich acidity of tonkatsu sauce play a key role in enhancing the tuna mayo base.
