instant jjamppong ramencanned hamonioncabbagegreen onion
Ingredients needed 🛒1 servings
- instant jjamppong ramen 1 pack (including liquid and dry seasoning)
- canned ham 1/2 can
- onion 1/2 medium
- cabbage as much as onion
- vegetable oil generously
- light soy sauce 1 tablespoon
- green onion a little
- black pepper a little
- water as needed (until noodles are cooked)
Recipe 🍳
- Place half a can of canned ham into a disposable plastic bag and mash with your hands until slightly chunky, just enough to have a chewy texture.
- Slice half an onion thinly, and cut cabbage into similar thickness and quantity as the onion.
- Heat vegetable oil generously in a frying pan, then add the mashed ham, sliced onion, and cabbage all at once.
- Keep on high heat and continuously stir-fry until the edges of the onion and cabbage develop a dark, charred appearance.
- Once the ingredients are well-charred, swirl 1 tablespoon of light soy sauce around the edge of the pan, letting it sizzle instantly to maximize flavor.
- Add water just enough to cover the noodles, then add both the dry and liquid seasonings from the jjamppong pack.
- Add the ramen noodles and continue stir-frying over high heat until the noodles are perfectly cooked and the sauce has reduced to a thick, clinging consistency.
- Turn off the heat when the noodles are fully cooked and the sauce has thickened, then sprinkle with finely chopped green onion and a pinch of black pepper for finishing.
- Mash the canned ham in a plastic bag, and slice onion and cabbage thinly.
- In an oiled pan, add ham and vegetables and stir-fry over high heat until nearly burnt, then swirl in light soy sauce along the pan’s edge to boost flavor.
- Add water, seasoning packets, and noodles, then stir-fry until moisture reduces to a thick consistency, finishing with green onion and pepper.
Cooking tips 💡
- To achieve authentic Chinese-style smokiness without a torch, fry the vegetables and ham until they’re just about to turn black.
- The key to deep umami is directly applying light soy sauce to the bottom of the pan, letting it sizzle and evaporate instantly.
- Avoid adding too much water, as it will prolong cooking time and risk overcooking the noodles—start with a small amount and adjust as needed.
