Ingredients needed 🛒1 servings

  • square fish cakes 1-2 sheets
  • bread slices 2 slices
  • lettuce 2 leaves
  • butter 1 tablespoon
  • mayonnaise 1 tablespoon
  • ketchup 1 tablespoon

Recipe 🍳

  1. Cut the fish cakes into squares to match the bread size. Wash the lettuce and pat dry.
  2. Generously coat the pan with butter (or margarine) and place two slices of bread. Toast until golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  3. Remove the toasted bread briefly. In the remaining butter, fry the fish cakes until golden brown on both sides.
  4. Spread mayonnaise and ketchup evenly on one side of each toasted bread slice.
  5. Layer the fried fish cakes on the sauce, place the crunchy lettuce on top, and cover with the other slice of bread to complete.
  1. Prepare the fish cakes and lettuce to fit the toast size.
  2. In a buttered pan, toast the bread slices and fry the fish cakes separately until golden.
  3. Spread ketchup and mayonnaise on the bread, then layer with fish cakes and lettuce, and cover with the other slice.

Cooking tips 💡

  • Using margarine to toast the bread enhances the savory, rich flavor characteristic of old-fashioned street toast.
  • Since fish cakes have a dense and chewy texture, stacking multiple thin square fish cakes makes it more delicious.
