Ingredients needed 🛒1 servings

  • Capellini pasta, 1 serving
  • Korean melon, 1/2
  • Onion, a little
  • Olives, a little
  • Scallions, a little
  • Lemon, 1/2
  • Perilla oil, generously
  • Soy sauce, generously
  • Sugar, 1 tbsp
  • Sesame seeds, a little
  • Salt, a little

Recipe 🍳

  1. Boil capellini pasta in salted water for 3 minutes, rinse under cold water, and drain well.
  2. Peel the Korean melon, cut in half, and strain the watery seed part to collect at least 1 tablespoon of melon juice.
  3. Thinly slice the Korean melon flesh and onion, halve the olives, and cut the scallions into 5cm lengths for easy eating.
  4. In a bowl, mix the collected melon juice with perilla oil, soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon of sugar to create a sweet and savory sauce.
  5. Combine the drained pasta with the sliced onion, olives, scallions, and the sauce, tossing gently to coat.
  6. Arrange the pasta and vegetables attractively in a serving bowl. Top generously with sliced Korean melon and sesame seeds. Finish with a squeeze of lemon juice, if desired.
  1. Boil capellini pasta for 3 minutes, rinse with cold water, and drain.
  2. Strain Korean melon seeds for juice, and prepare melon flesh, onion, olives, and scallions.
  3. Mix melon juice, perilla oil, soy sauce, and sugar to make the sauce.
  4. Gently toss the pasta with the prepared vegetables and sauce.
  5. Serve in a bowl, topped with melon slices, sesame seeds, and lemon juice.

Cooking tips 💡

  • Using the sweetness from the melon seeds in the sauce reduces the need for added sugar and provides natural umami.
  • Drizzling lemon juice directly over the melon, rather than the entire pasta, enhances its sweet and sour flavor profile.
