  • Those who want to move beyond basic omurice and serve a visually impressive, restaurant-style meal at home
  • Those eager to enjoy a deliciously savory-sweet omurice using the golden ratio of two store-bought sauces—without the need for complicated sauce preparation

Ingredients needed 🛒1 servings

  • rice 1 bowl
  • egg 3 pieces
  • green onion a little
  • onion a little
  • tomato spaghetti sauce 2 tablespoons
  • tonkatsu sauce 2 tablespoons
  • water 1/3 cup
  • salt a little
  • pepper a little
  • vegetable oil a little
  • parsley powder a little

Recipe 🍳

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a pan, then sauté finely chopped green onion and minced onion until golden brown. Add 1 bowl of rice, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of pepper, then stir-fry into fluffy fried rice. (If you're short on time, you can use plain steamed rice.)
  2. Press the fried rice tightly into a bowl, then flip it firmly onto a wide serving plate to form a round, neat shape.
  3. In a bowl, beat 3 eggs with a tiny pinch of salt until the egg whites are fully incorporated and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Add a thin layer of vegetable oil to a pan, then rotate the pan in all directions to evenly coat the entire surface with oil.
  5. Turn the heat to medium-low and warm the pan gently for about 30 seconds. Pour the egg mixture all at once over the pan.
  6. As the edges of the egg begin to set and puff up from the heat, use chopsticks in both hands to slowly pull the egg toward the center from both ends.
  7. Rotate the pan gently around the center of the egg while shaping it into an elegant swirl. Turn off the heat when the top remains slightly moist and soft-boiled.
  8. Carefully slide the swirl omelet onto the fried rice, gently wrapping it around.
  9. Return to the pan and add 2 tablespoons of tomato spaghetti sauce, 2 tablespoons of tonkatsu sauce, and 1/3 cup of water. Stir well and bring to a gentle boil to complete the custom sauce.
  10. Gently drizzle the sauce around the bottom edge of the omurice, then sprinkle parsley powder on top.
  1. Sauté green onion and onion, then mix with rice to make fried rice. Shape it neatly in the center of a serving plate.
  2. Pour the egg mixture into a preheated, oiled pan. Use chopsticks to gather the egg toward the center while rotating the pan to create a soft, swirling omelet. Place it on top of the rice.
  3. Boil together spaghetti sauce, tonkatsu sauce, and water to make a savory-sweet custom sauce. Drizzle it around the edge of the omurice to finish.

Cooking tips 💡

  • If the egg mixture sticks to the pan, the swirl will tear apart during shaping. Always ensure the pan is properly coated with oil and preheated for at least 30 seconds before cooking.
  • After pulling the egg toward the center, gently rotate the pan to form the swirl. Avoid sudden or fast movements, as this may cause the omelet to break. The key to success is steady, rhythmic, and smooth motion.
