Ingredients needed 🛒1 servings
- ramen 1 pack (recommended: mild flavor)
- onion 1/2
- green onion 1/2
- vegetable oil generously
- frozen shrimp as needed
- pork belly slices as needed
- gochugaru 1 tablespoon
- milk 1 cup
- tomato spaghetti sauce 3 tablespoons
- pepper to taste
- Chinese cabbage or green chili pepper (optional) 1
Recipe 🍳
- Cut the green onion in half lengthwise, focusing on the white part, then chop coarsely. Thinly slice the onion.
- Heat generous vegetable oil in a pot, add the sliced green onion and onion, and sauté until deeply browned and fragrant.
- Once the vegetables are wilted, add the frozen shrimp and pork belly slices, and cook together until fully cooked.
- When the ingredients are cooked through, add one pack of ramen seasoning and 1 tablespoon of gochugaru, stirring quickly until the mixture turns bright red and develops a smoky aroma.
- Pour in 1 cup of milk and add 3 tablespoons of tomato spaghetti sauce, then bring to a boil to form a smooth, rosy sauce base.
- Once the sauce begins to bubble, add the ramen noodles and the remaining seasoning packet. Stir occasionally and cook until the noodles reach the desired tenderness.
- Add Chinese cabbage or green chili pepper according to preference for color and heat, then sprinkle a light amount of pepper to finish.
- Sauté green onion and onion in oil until browned, then add shrimp and pork belly and cook through.
- Add ramen seasoning and gochugaru, stir-fry briefly, then pour in milk and tomato sauce and simmer together.
- Add noodles and solids, cook until done, then finish with Chinese cabbage, green chili pepper, and pepper to taste.
Cooking tips 💡
- You can use either pork belly slices or frozen shrimp—either is fine. If neither is available, substitute with any other available meat or omit altogether.
- The addition of tomato spaghetti sauce gives the dish a more sophisticated, pasta-like depth compared to regular ramen.
- Using a mild-flavored ramen instead of spicy helps balance the creamy richness of the milk with the jjamppong base.
