Ingredients needed 🛒3 servings

  • Ground lamb (to taste)
  • 1 onion
  • 1/2 carrot
  • Small amount of fresh herbs
  • Tomato paste (to taste)
  • 1 can dark beer
  • Small amount of beef stock
  • Small amount of flour slurry
  • Handful of frozen peas
  • Mashed potatoes (to taste)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • Cheese (to taste)

Recipe 🍳

  1. Finely chop the onion and carrot, and prepare fresh herbs to add depth to the sauce.
  2. In a hot skillet, add the ground lamb and stir-fry until all moisture has evaporated and the meat is dry and firm.
  3. Add the chopped vegetables to the cooked meat and continue stir-frying until all moisture is completely gone.
  4. Add tomato paste, then pour in dark beer instead of water for flavor, and stir well to avoid lumps.
  5. Add beef stock for umami, and add a little flour slurry to thicken the sauce, then simmer.
  6. For a beautiful color and fresh taste, add frozen peas and lightly stir-fry to finish the meat sauce.
  7. Mix mashed potatoes with egg yolk and other ingredients to create a smooth, cohesive mashed potato topping.
  8. Spread the finished meat sauce evenly on the bottom of an oven-safe dish, then top with the mashed potatoes, spreading evenly.
  9. Use a fork to create ridges on the surface of the potatoes to increase surface area, then bake in the oven at (appropriate temperature) for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Sprinkle cheese over the golden baked pie and let it melt with residual heat to finish.
  1. Stir-fry ground lamb and vegetables in a pan until all moisture evaporates and the mixture is dry.
  2. Add tomato paste, dark beer, beef stock, flour slurry, and peas to create a thick meat sauce.
  3. Layer the meat sauce in a dish, top with mashed potatoes mixed with egg yolk and cheese, then bake in the oven.

Cooking tips 💡

  • When stir-frying the meat and vegetables, ensure all moisture is fully evaporated; otherwise, the pie will become soggy instead of firm after baking.
  • Mixing egg yolk into the mashed potatoes helps them stick together, making it much easier to shape and spread.
  • Creating ridges on the mashed potato surface with a fork increases the surface area, resulting in a more golden and attractive color after baking.
