Recipe 🍳

  1. Season the ground meat with basic seasonings and knead to form a batter.
  2. Shape the batter using a Pikachu mold or your hands into a thick, flat shape, similar to playing with modeling clay.
  3. Place the shaped batter in the freezer and freeze solid for at least 1 hour.
  4. Remove the frozen meat batter and quickly coat it in flour, egg wash, and bread crumbs in that order before it thaws or loses its shape.
  5. Deep-fry in oil heated to 150–160°C (300–320°F) until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. In a pan, combine ketchup, oligosaccharide syrup, and gochujang, then simmer briefly to make a sweet and spicy school snack-style sauce.
  7. Insert a wooden skewer into the fried donkatsu to create a handle, then brush the prepared sauce evenly on all sides.
  1. Shape the kneaded meat batter into a Pikachu shape and freeze for 1 hour.
  2. While still frozen, quickly coat with flour, egg, bread crumbs and deep-fry in 150–160°C oil.
  3. Insert a wooden skewer, then brush the simmered sweet and spicy sauce on both sides.

Cooking tips 💡

  • Since the batter will completely lose its shape if it thaws during coating or frying, work quickly immediately after removing from the freezer.
  • Insert the skewer after frying for better stability and to avoid interference during frying.
  • Heat the sauce only until it just begins to simmer to avoid burning and to maintain a smooth consistency.
