Recipe 🍳
- In a blender, combine apple, soy sauce, brown sugar, cooking wine, sesame oil, and minced garlic, and blend until smooth to make the homemade sauce.
- Cut the pork belly into bite-sized pieces.
- In a bowl, add the cut pork belly and rice cakes, pour the sauce over, mix well, and marinate for 30 minutes to let the flavors absorb.
- Pan-fry the marinated pork belly and rice cakes in a skillet, or bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
- Alternate the cooked pork belly, softened rice cakes, and green chili peppers on skewers.
- Brush the remaining sauce evenly over the skewers to coat.
- Briefly grill or pan-fry the sauced skewers once more to let the sauce cling.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds over the finished skewers and serve.
- Blend apple, soy sauce, sugar, etc. to make the sauce; marinate pork belly and rice cakes for 30 minutes.
- Cook the marinated meat and rice cakes in oven or pan, then skewer with green chili peppers.
- Brush with sauce again, lightly grill, and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Cooking tips 💡
- Using brown sugar instead of white sugar gives the skewers a rich, dark brown color and deeper flavor when grilled.
- Cook the pork belly first before skewering to prevent the meat from shrinking and falling off, and to maintain a neat appearance.
- When applying the final sauce and grilling, be careful not to burn the sauce; cook quickly over medium-low heat.
