Ingredients needed 🛒1 servings
- frozen dumplings 5~6 pieces
- vegetable oil generously
- onion 1 piece
- water 1/2 cup (standard paper cup)
- sugar 1 tablespoon
- tonkatsu sauce 1 tablespoon
- oyster sauce 1 tablespoon
- rice 1 bowl
- egg yolk 1 piece
- pepper a pinch
- sesame seeds a pinch
Recipe 🍳
- Heat generous amount of vegetable oil in a pan, then place frozen dumplings in and cook them evenly on both sides until golden brown.
- Once the dumplings have softened slightly, use scissors to cut them into bite-sized chunks.
- Coarsely chop 1 onion and add it generously to the pan with the dumplings.
- Sauté until the filling is fully cooked and the dumpling skins become crispy like fried dough, continuing until the onions turn a light brown color.
- Add 1/2 cup water to achieve a moist sauce consistency, then mix in 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 tablespoon tonkatsu sauce, and 1 tablespoon oyster sauce to balance the sauce.
- Stir continuously until the seasoning is well incorporated and the mixture becomes tender and glossy, completing the topping.
- Place a generous serving of hot white rice into a bowl, then pile the sautéed dumpling and onion mixture on top.
- Top with 1 rich egg yolk in the center, then sprinkle with pepper and sesame seeds according to taste.
- Roast the dumplings in a pan, then chop them roughly with scissors and sauté with chopped onions.
- Add water, sugar, tonkatsu sauce, and oyster sauce, then simmer until the sauce coats everything evenly and remains moist.
- Place the sautéed mixture over warm rice and finish with egg yolk, pepper, and sesame seeds for garnish.
Cooking tips 💡
- Crush the dumpling skins finely and fry them thoroughly in oil—this ensures they stay firm and chewy even after stewing in sauce, enhancing the overall texture of the rice bowl.
- Sauté the onions until they turn dark brown to fully bring out their natural sweetness and soft aroma, which deeply infuses the entire sauce.
