Solo Cooking God's Cola Chicken Wings

A super simple braised chicken wing recipe that maximizes sweet and savory flavors by simmering with cola and soy sauce instead of ordering chicken delivery.

🙋 Recommended for

  • Those who want affordable homemade chicken instead of takeout chicken
  • People looking for sweet-salty seasoning for kids' snacks or adults' beer pairings

Ingredients needed 🛒2 servings

  • chicken wings 600g
  • vegetable oil a little
  • salt a little
  • pepper a little
  • whole garlic 1 handful
  • premium soy sauce 2 tablespoons
  • oyster sauce 1 tablespoon
  • cola 1 cup (based on paper cup)
  • star anise 1 piece (optional)
  • green chili pepper 1 piece
  • sesame seeds a little

Recipe 🍳

  1. Lightly coat a pan with vegetable oil and place the prepared 600g chicken wings, making sure they don’t overlap.
  2. Season with salt and pepper, then sear thoroughly on both sides until evenly browned.
  3. Once the chicken is nicely browned, add a handful of whole garlic and sauté together until the garlic surface turns brown.
  4. Add 2 tablespoons premium soy sauce and 1 tablespoon oyster sauce around the edge of the pan, briefly burning them in oil to release aroma, then stir into the chicken.
  5. Pour in 1 cup cola and add 1 star anise for extra fragrance. Simmer over medium heat until the sauce reduces and thickens.
  6. When the cola has reduced to a thick, sticky consistency, turn off the heat and transfer the chicken and garlic to a serving bowl.
  7. Garnish with finely chopped green chili pepper and sesame seeds to add spiciness and nuttiness, then finish.
  1. Place chicken wings in a pan, season with salt and pepper, and sear until golden brown.
  2. Add whole garlic and sauté, then add premium soy sauce, oyster sauce, cola, and star anise to simmer.
  3. Once the sauce becomes thick and glossy, sprinkle with chopped green chili pepper and sesame seeds to finish.

Cooking tips 💡

  • You can use other preferred parts such as chicken drumettes or thighs instead of chicken wings.
  • Searing the soy sauce and oyster sauce in oil before adding cola enhances the depth of flavor significantly.
  • Star anise effectively removes any gamey odor from the chicken, but it’s optional if unavailable.
  • Leftover flat cola can be used just as well to make this delicious braised dish.
