Ingredients needed 🛒2 servings
- chicken wings 600g
- vegetable oil a little
- salt a little
- pepper a little
- whole garlic 1 handful
- premium soy sauce 2 tablespoons
- oyster sauce 1 tablespoon
- cola 1 cup (based on paper cup)
- star anise 1 piece (optional)
- green chili pepper 1 piece
- sesame seeds a little
Recipe 🍳
- Lightly coat a pan with vegetable oil and place the prepared 600g chicken wings, making sure they don’t overlap.
- Season with salt and pepper, then sear thoroughly on both sides until evenly browned.
- Once the chicken is nicely browned, add a handful of whole garlic and sauté together until the garlic surface turns brown.
- Add 2 tablespoons premium soy sauce and 1 tablespoon oyster sauce around the edge of the pan, briefly burning them in oil to release aroma, then stir into the chicken.
- Pour in 1 cup cola and add 1 star anise for extra fragrance. Simmer over medium heat until the sauce reduces and thickens.
- When the cola has reduced to a thick, sticky consistency, turn off the heat and transfer the chicken and garlic to a serving bowl.
- Garnish with finely chopped green chili pepper and sesame seeds to add spiciness and nuttiness, then finish.
- Place chicken wings in a pan, season with salt and pepper, and sear until golden brown.
- Add whole garlic and sauté, then add premium soy sauce, oyster sauce, cola, and star anise to simmer.
- Once the sauce becomes thick and glossy, sprinkle with chopped green chili pepper and sesame seeds to finish.
Cooking tips 💡
- You can use other preferred parts such as chicken drumettes or thighs instead of chicken wings.
- Searing the soy sauce and oyster sauce in oil before adding cola enhances the depth of flavor significantly.
- Star anise effectively removes any gamey odor from the chicken, but it’s optional if unavailable.
- Leftover flat cola can be used just as well to make this delicious braised dish.
