Solo Cooking God Cola Pork Potato Stew

Pan-seared pork belly with cola to eliminate gamey odor and tenderize the meat, then simmered with soy sauce and potatoes into a rich, savory-sweet dish that pairs perfectly with rice or as an appetizer.

🙋 Recommended for

  • Those who want to try a soft, sweet-salty pork stew using cola
  • People craving the combination of savory meat and fluffy potatoes that make one bowl of rice disappear quickly

Ingredients needed 🛒2 servings

  • pork belly 500g
  • potatoes 3 (medium size)
  • cola 2 cups (using paper cup measurement)
  • soy sauce 3 tablespoons
  • sugar 2 tablespoons
  • chicken stock or beef dashi 0.5 tablespoon
  • green chili peppers 1–2
  • sesame oil 1 swirl
  • toasted sesame seeds generously

Recipe 🍳

  1. Cut pork belly and potatoes into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
  2. Place all pork belly in a pan, spread evenly, and sear on both sides until deeply browned.
  3. Once a good crust forms on the pork, pour in 2 cups of cola to tenderize the meat.
  4. Add soy sauce 3 tablespoons, sugar 2 tablespoons, chicken stock (or beef dashi) 0.5 tablespoon, and place all prepared potatoes into the pan.
  5. Chop 1–2 green chili peppers roughly and add them to cut through richness. Once the liquid starts boiling, reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer until potatoes are fully cooked.
  6. When potatoes are done, increase heat to high and reduce the cola sauce until thick and sticky. Finish by drizzling with sesame oil and sprinkling toasted sesame seeds.
  1. Sear pork belly on both sides until deeply browned in a pan.

  3. Simmer covered over medium-low heat until cooked through, then finish with high heat to thicken the sauce, and garnish with sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds.

Cooking tips 💡

  • Adding cola not only removes pork’s gamey smell but also tenderizes the meat and gives it a glossy, appetizing brown color, enhancing the overall depth of flavor.
  • Including green chili peppers helps balance the sweetness and richness of the dish for a cleaner, more harmonious taste.
  • Check seasoning at the end and adjust to your preference using soy sauce and sugar for the perfect sweet-salty balance.
