Solo Cooking God's Beef Short Rib Jjamppong Tteokbokki

A rich, hearty tteokbokki with a smoky, savory broth made using packaged jjamppong ramen and the fragrant oil from beef short ribs, enhanced with gochujang.

🙋 Recommended for

  • Those who prefer a rich, hearty tteokbokki with a meat-based broth over light, watery versions
  • Fans of bold, spicy-sweet street food and the intense flavor of jjaampop broth in one bowl

Ingredients needed 🛒1 servings

  • jjamppong ramen 1 pack
  • beef short rib 100~150g
  • green onion 1 stalk
  • water 3 cups
  • gochujang 1 tablespoon
  • sugar 1 tablespoon
  • tteokbokki rice cake 1 handful
  • fish cake 1 piece
  • black pepper to taste

Recipe 🍳

  1. Cut the green onion in half lengthwise and slice into large pieces. Cut the fish cake into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Place the beef short rib (100~150g) and sliced green onion in a pan and cook slowly until the meat releases its fat.
  3. Remove half of the well-seared beef short rib to use as a topping later.
  4. Add 3 cups of water to the remaining meat and green onion in the pan. Stir in the powdered soup base and solid bits from the jjamppong ramen, 1 tablespoon of gochujang, and 1 tablespoon of sugar until fully dissolved.
  5. Once the broth begins to bubble vigorously, add the ramen noodles, 1 handful of tteokbokki rice cake, and the sliced fish cake.
  6. Simmer until the rice cake and noodles are fully cooked. Transfer to a bowl, top generously with the reserved beef short rib and black pepper.
  1. Sear beef short rib and green onion in a pan to extract oil; set aside half of the beef for topping.
  2. Add water, two types of ramen seasoning, gochujang, and sugar to build a rich broth.
  3. Add noodles, rice cake, and fish cake; boil until cooked through. Finish with reserved beef short rib and black pepper.

Cooking tips 💡

  • You can substitute beef short rib with thinly sliced pork belly or back bacon for a similarly rich and fatty result.
  • The umami from the fish cake and jjaampop ramen combines beautifully with the rich meat fat, creating a satisfying hangover remedy broth.
