Ttukdak Hyung's Kongnamul Bap

A crunchy soybean sprout rice dish made in just 5 minutes in the microwave, without the sprouts wilting or burning like in a pot.

🙋 Recommended for

  • Those who want a savory, slightly spicy soy sauce to mix with crunchy rice for a flavorful meal when they have no appetite
  • Those who have failed at making pot-style kongnamul bap due to mushy or layered rice
  • Those who want a nutritious, fragrant meal with minimal budget and time

Ingredients needed 🛒1 servings

  • Sliced shiitake mushrooms, as needed
  • A handful of bean sprouts
  • Chopped green onion, as needed

  • Jin soy sauce, as needed
  • Guk soy sauce, as needed
  • A little water
  • Sesame oil, as needed
  • Corn syrup (ollyeongdang), as needed
  • Gochugaru (red pepper powder), as needed

Recipe 🍳

  1. Spread a bowl of warm rice evenly in a deep microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Place thinly sliced shiitake mushrooms evenly over the rice, then pile clean, crunchy bean sprouts generously on top.
  3. In another bowl, mix chopped green onion, cheongyang chili pepper, jin soy sauce, guk soy sauce, a little water, sesame oil, corn syrup, and gochugaru to make the seasoning sauce.
  4. Evenly drizzle the seasoning sauce over the bean sprouts in the bowl.
  5. Microwave for 5 minutes until the bean sprouts and mushrooms are just tender and the seasoning has soaked into the rice.
  1. Put rice in a microwave-safe bowl and pile shiitake mushrooms and bean sprouts on top.
  2. Mix green onion, cheongyang chili pepper, soy sauces, sesame oil, and gochugaru to make a sauce.
  3. Pour the sauce over the bean sprouts, microwave for 5 minutes, then mix everything together.

Cooking tips 💡

  • Combining jin soy sauce with guk soy sauce reduces sweetness and adds a clean, deep savory flavor that pairs perfectly with kongnamul bap.
  • Microwaving keeps the bean sprouts crunchy and moist, preventing them from getting tough.
  • This is a great budget-friendly meal when you have no appetite or lack side dishes, needing only bean sprouts from the fridge.
