Striker Chef's Spam Stew
A super simple Spam stew recipe tailored for students living alone, easily made without worrying about seasoning thanks to the golden 2:1 ratio of ssamjang and doenjang.

Ingredients needed 🛒2 servings
- 5 cups water
- 2 tbsp ssamjang
- 1 tbsp doenjang
- 1 can Spam
- Aged kimchi, appropriate amount
- 1 handful oyster mushrooms
- 1/2 green onion
- 1 Cheongyang chili pepper
- 1 red chili pepper
Recipe 🍳
- Pour 5 cups of water into a pot, add 2 tbsp ssamjang and 1 tbsp doenjang, and dissolve them in a 2:1 ratio.
- When the broth begins to boil, add Spam cut into large pieces.
- Add aged kimchi, also cut into large pieces two or three times, to the stew.
- Tear the oyster mushrooms into bite-sized pieces and add them, along with the diagonally sliced green onion, to boil together.
- Once it comes to a rolling boil, add the diagonally sliced Cheongyang and red chili peppers at the end to add color and spiciness, then finish.
- Pour water into a pot, dissolve ssamjang and doenjang in a 2:1 ratio, and boil.
- Add large pieces of Spam, aged kimchi, mushrooms, and green onion, and boil for a while.
- Add chili peppers to enhance color and spiciness to complete.
Cooking tips 💡
- Maintaining the 2:1 ratio of ssamjang to doenjang is crucial for a deep flavor without failure.
- If you want to add more of a budae jjigae (army base stew) feel, adding baked beans (canned beans) or cheddar cheese slices also pairs well.
- Adding chili peppers from the beginning can dull their color, so it's best to add them in the final stage of cooking.
