Ingredients needed 🛒2 servings
- Frozen shrimp, as needed
- 1 can Spam
- 1 cheongyang chili pepper
- 1 red chili pepper
- Starch powder, as needed
- Flour, as needed
- 1-2 eggs
- Seasoned salt, a pinch
- Pepper, a pinch
- Cooking oil, enough for pan-frying
Recipe 🍳
- Thaw the frozen shrimp, pat dry, then mash with the back of a knife and finely chop.
- Mix the chopped shrimp with minced cheongyang chili, red chili, starch powder, seasoned salt, and pepper; knead well to form the shrimp paste.
- Slice the Spam into uniform thickness.
- Place a generous amount of shrimp paste between two slices of Spam and gently press together.
- Lightly and evenly coat the outer surface of the Spam sandwich with flour.
- Dip the floured Spam sandwich into beaten egg to coat the exterior.
- Heat a pan with enough oil over medium-low heat, then pan-fry until the shrimp is fully cooked and the Spam surface turns golden brown on both sides.
- Mix chopped shrimp with chili, seasoning, and starch to make the paste.
- Fill the Spam slices with the shrimp paste to make a sandwich.
- Coat with flour and egg wash, then pan-fry in oil until golden on both sides.
Cooking tips 💡
- Since Spam is already salty, reduce the amount of seasoned salt in the shrimp paste to lightly season it.
- To prevent the Spam and shrimp from separating while frying, make sure to coat the sides with flour thoroughly.
- Serve with rice or with ketchup, mustard, or other tangy sauces to balance the saltiness.
