  • store-bought multi-purpose bibim sauce, 2 tbsp
  • sesame oil, 1 tbsp
  • minced garlic, 1 tbsp
  • scallions, as needed

Recipe 🍳

  1. Bring water to a boil in a frying pan, add the jjolmyeon noodles, and cover with a lid to cook quickly.
  2. While the noodles cook, watch the heat closely as it can boil over in an instant; wait until the noodles are cooked through.
  3. Once cooked, immediately transfer the jjolmyeon noodles to cold water and rub them vigorously to remove excess starch, creating a firm and chewy texture.
  4. In a bowl, mix 2 tbsp store-bought bibim sauce, 1 tbsp sesame oil, and 1 tbsp minced garlic to make a special sauce.
  5. Heat a pan and add the pork, searing until the surface is crispy and golden brown (Maillard reaction).
  6. Drain the noodles thoroughly and place them in a bowl. Top with the seared pork, then drizzle with the prepared sauce and garnish with minced scallions.
  1. Boil the jjolmyeon noodles, then rinse them vigorously in cold water and drain.

Cooking tips 💡

  • Wash the jjolmyeon noodles in cold water with strong rubbing to prevent them from breaking easily and to maintain a springy texture.
  • When cooking noodles in a frying pan, covering the lid shortens the time but watch out for rapid boiling over.
  • The meat should be seared crispy to create a contrasting texture when eaten with the spicy noodles, making it much more delicious.
